| Mississippi
College. At first glance you may not realize that it's
the second-oldest Baptist college in the United States,
the largest and oldest private college in Mississippi,
the first coeducational institution in the United States
to grant a degree to a woman, or that it's been selected
for nine consecutive years by the esteemed Templeton Foundation
as one of the country's top 100 character-building colleges.
Building on this commitment to excellence, Mississippi
College has offered graduate programs for almost 50
years. With over 3,900 total students, and approximately
800 active graduate degree seeking enrollees, Mississippi
College has an enviable record of success in the field
of graduate education.
In
1950 Mississippi College offered the first courses at
the graduate level. Public response to those offerings
resulted in a steady enrollment growth in the decade
of the fifties. In fact, within ten years--by 1961--the
Division of Graduate Studies was created to coordinate
post baccalaureate programs. Continued growth of graduate
education resulted in the formation of the Graduate
School in 1975.
